The Family that Works Together
[We are so grateful to have such committed readers who understand that life happens sometimes, and we don’t always make our goals. This week handed us a doozy of a family emergency, so not only were we late in posting last week’s comic, but we had to decide to temporarily post this week’s without its inking. Thank you for sticking with us while we work out some of these hiccups in the beginning! Sidenote- today is our first world-building post on Patreon. We are pretty excited to see what you think about it!]
The adventure begins! We have made it through the background exposition to give you an understanding of the world we’ve entered, and we are now getting to see the actual storyline of the first book of The World of Bumps. The decision to start the story with an intimate look at the personal side of Juniper and Mathan’s family is poignant. Family, after all, is the foundation of life, culture, and…well EVERYTHING. We are eager to share with you how the Hornbill family pulls together in times of joy and times of trial.
We also know there are some pretty heavy themes coming in this story, so we decided to start out with a celebration to remind us that in spite of the difficulties we should always take joy in life. We don’t know what your house looks like when you are getting ready to host a party, but we think Juniper has a pretty level head, especially when her rambunctious children started the day out in a puddle of soured milk and her husband has just arrived from a month long study-abroad.
There are a couple of details about the illustrations for this week that we’ve added to our Patreon posts, but we did want to share one quick shoutout here. Our nephew celebrated his birthday this week, and he LOVES cheese, so we decided we had to feature that in a few of the frames for this page. Did you notice the cub eating a cheese stick?
Just out of curiosity, what’s your favorite kind of cheese?

Your little nephew loved seeing the little bear with the cheese snack and the other picture with a ” bunch of cheese!” Lol! He also liked looking closer and asking what everyone was doing, especially the independent little bear doing everything on his own!! Great artistry and details!!
